Muslim-only Alton Towers

BRITAIN’S biggest fun park has sparked a race row ? with a MUSLIMS-ONLY day.

Up to 28,000 are expected at Alton Towers on September 17 when there will be no music, booze or gambling.

Instead there will be prayer areas, Muslim stalls and all food served will be HALAL.

Organisers Islamic Leisure have billed it the First National Muslim Fun Day and tickets can only be bought through their website.

Non-Muslims phoning the Staffordshire park have been refused tickets.

One, George Hughes, 19, who rang up for 15 tickets for a pal’s birthday, said: “I couldn’t believe it.

“It’s the only day we can go, yet I can’t because I’m not Muslim. Can you imagine all the fuss if there was a Christians-only day?”

George, of Crayford, Kent, added: “My Muslim friends think it’s outrageous.

“What’s the world coming to when people are being banned from flying the St George’s flag yet this sort of day is allowed? If it must be held, then why not on a weekday rather than a busy weekend?”

The event is widely promoted on the internet and the Muslim Public Affairs Committee declared it “exclusively for our brothers and sisters”.

But some Muslims have condemned the idea. One university student on a Muslim website forum said: “It’s hardly encouraging integration.”

Another said: “What next . . . an all Muslims shopping day out in the Trafford Centre in Manchester?”

Abid Hussan of Islamic Leisure insisted the day was open to all faiths, although Islamic laws would apply.

He added: “There will be no smoking, no alcohol and halal food only.

“We’re trying to get Muslims to go to this day because they wouldn’t normally go somewhere like Alton Towers. We’re trying to integrate Muslims into the wider community. People can come down and see the way we live. It will be a peaceful family environment.”

Alton Towers said any organisation could hire the park for a day.

A spokeswoman said “We make no distinction regarding sexuality, religious, ethnic or lifestyle choices.”

She confirmed tickets for the day were now available only through Islamic Leisure. And Alton Towers would promote the fact that the day had been booked.

She added: “As a general rule, there will be no admission on the day to guests who have not booked through the organisation in advance.”

Immigration officer comes home to find family of Romanian gypsies squatting in her house, wearing her clothes and drinking her wine (after telling neighbours she'd died)

An immigration officer returned home to find gipsies had moved in, ransacked the place and dressed in her clothes.

Julia High was even offered a glass of her own wine by the Romanian squatters.

They claimed they had rented the property from her ‘son’ because she had died, and produced a set of fake documents. Miss High, 55, has no son.

The home was occupied by the squatters after Miss High went to visit her parents for the weekend

Fake: The Romanians claimed there was a tenancy agreement between Miss High's son and them for the home, which she has owned for 30 years

The family of five adults and three children had ripped up carpets, emptied the fridge and dumped her belongings in bin bags in the garden of her £270,000 home.

They left water damage to the kitchen and bathroom, while a computer and digital cameras were missing. Only her beds and wardrobes were left intact. And once evicted, they squatted in another home two streets away.

Miss High, who works for the UK Border Agency, had spent a weekend visiting her parents and on the Monday evening went to see the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall before returning to the terraced home in Leytonstone, east London, which she has owned for 30 years.

She said: ‘The women came to the door dressed in my clothes, they were sitting around my dining room table, drinking my wine out of my glasses. They even offered me a drink and told me they were from Romania. They said I was dead and my son had rented the house to them. I am very much alive, single and I don’t have a son.’

She secured a county court eviction order the next day and police removed the family. But she has been forced to stay with friends during repairs, and fears it will be weeks before she can return.

She said: ‘These people have just trashed 30 years of my life and thrown it into bin bags. It is soul-destroying.’

Yesterday the Daily Mail found the family in a four-bedroom house two streets away, owned by a doctor who bought it in March but delayed moving in to carry out repairs.

When approached for a comment, the family spat and swore. One woman, who said her name was Dragoi Carmen, said: ‘I’ve never seen [Miss High’s] house, I don’t know why I’m being accused of this.’

Laura Eparu, who lives next door to Miss High, said: ‘I’m Romanian myself and I realised they were Romanian gipsies. They’ve brought shame on our country.’

ASYLUM FAMILY GIVEN £2M HOME TO BE NEAR FRIENDS

The couple use benefits to pay the rent on the home in West Hampstead, north London

Monday August 15,2011

By James Dowling

A FAMILY of asylum seekers on “every kind of benefit available” have been granted a move to a £2million London mansion that rents out at £8,000 a month just to be nearer their friends, it emerged yesterday.

Jobless Somali Saeed Khaliif, 49, and wife Sayida use benefits to pay the rent on the six-bedroom home in West Hampstead, north London.

It was claimed the family moved from Coventry to be closer to friends and relatives in London. While it is not known exactly how many children the Khaliifs have, up to eight youngsters have been seen at the house, including two in wheelchairs.

The new “substantial home” was on the market for £2million. It has six bedrooms, three bathrooms and three receptions.

It was recently advertised locally at a rent of £1,500 per week. But their former landlord, Raj Sohal, said: “If the rent on their new property is £8,000 a month, I’m sure they are getting a lot more. They were on every kind of benefit available.”

He said the large family told him they wanted to leave his Coventry home to be closer to relatives in the capital.

The Government recently capped housing benefit at £400 per week, but it is thought the Khaliifs moved before the limit.

The estate agent blurb said: “Located along a quiet tree-lined street just off the West End Lane, close to West Hampstead for all the three main train stations, local shops and the plethora of restaurants and bars.”

It adds: “The property comprises a light and spacious reception room, modern kitchen, six good-sized bedrooms (four with en suite shower room, two with dressing rooms), shower room and 90ft garden. This is a truly unique home.”

When Mr Khaliif was approached last week outside his home he reportedly said: “This is my house. We’ve got every right to live here.”

Neither he nor his wife have worked since arriving in the UK three years ago.

A Department for Work and Pensions spokeswoman was unable to comment on the Khaliifs’ individual case. The DWP fund the benefit, but it is administered by local councils. The spokeswoman said: “It is unfair on taxpayers that some claimants are in large homes most working families can’t afford.”

Camden council press office did not answer phone calls yesterday. Council member Chris Knight, said it had refused to release information about the family or the house. It is held under data protection rules.

He said it was “daft” that the North London borough was housing people from other areas when locals could not find a suitable home.

“The council’s job is to look after the people of Camden first,” he said.
